I am hoping that by meeting my students where they're at, offering a diverse selection of books, making my classroom feel calmer, etc. they will engage more and learn more. Their biggest need is to have a space for unwinding and for feeling supported. I hope that by offering books they are interested in or feel represented by, they will feel more compelled to engage and more confident. I want them to feel proud of what they are able to read and understand. I hope that their achievement of reading through books (many of my students have never fully read a book) can help them feel like the best version of themselves. I know that this will help them inside of school and out.
