My students have been left behind regarding their literacy skills. They dislike reading and writing and will avoid it at all costs. To help foster a positive relationship with reading, I have begun reading the first chapter of books that may interest them to preview stories with my students and encourage silent reading daily in class. However, they are uncomfortable in their hard, cold desks and prefer to sit on the floor. I would like to provide them with a literacy center. In order to do this, I need a soft rug and flexible seating options for them. I also require a bookshelf to store the books they will choose to read. Help me to make a cozy reading nook and bridge the gaps my students have been struggling with.
