Please help my students unplug from screens and learn social-emotional life skills! Covid learning has reduced student attentions, increased dependence on screens, and caused uncertainty in daily schedules. These selections will help students learn social-emotional as well as learning skills. A classroom set of SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE TEENS will help with learning social emotional skills as well as developing a mindset for learning. The book LONG WAY DOWN is a highly accessible book written in verse. Many non-readers engage with this book because it's short. Because it is set in an inner city, it also help students develop empathy for other circumstances and allows diverse voices to be heard. The book, UGLY, is a lower reading level and a non-fiction book, and many non-readers respond positively to both the ease of reading and the messages of overcoming obstacles and accepting others with different appearances. My students are in need of ways to replace screens in learning and experiencing class. Please help them have access to Legos that can give them something to do while listening. I teach co-taught classes, and these manipulatives will greatly impact attention. Markers will help students create real projects, allowing another avenue for learning.
