With more keyboards in the classroom, more students will be able to learn piano technique and increase their talents. As we are, a full class needs to share a keyboard between two students, which is not easy. With more keyboards, we will be able to spread out and get more individualized learning. I have also asked my General Music students to write their own songs, which is easier to do with pianos in front of them. With more keyboards in the room, more students will be able to work at a time, reducing the time students have to get distracted. By increasing the number of instruments, we are increasing the opportunities for students to learn more and to develop as musicians as well as people. Another activity I have done with my General Music students is creating our own instruments out of recycled items. The last time we did this project, there was a lack of rubber bands. This time around, I would like to have plenty of rubber bands to help expand the students' creativity. I have been seeking to increase my music library, and in doing so have found the need to organize this library. The best way I have found is by placing the pieces of music in manila envelops and labelling them very precisely. And finally, it has proven easiest for my students to understand different parts of a piece when I draw them out on the board with different colors of marker. I do have mini whiteboards in my room, which would be used more if I had markers to hand out to students.
