Being able to create statistics helps students learn and internalize our class material so much more than just reading about statistics. The Barbie Bungee project allows students to create scatterplots using different numbers of rubber bands as a bungee cord along with a yard stick, then create least-squares regression lines, write interpretations of their numbers, and then test their work by giving Barbie a bungee jump from the second floor! The laser measurement device will help us with our measurement of such information distances in this project as well as others taking place outside the physical classroom. Different games also help students use their skills in theoretical probability as well as experimental probability. Pass the Pigs has students struggling to predict possibilities for each outcome because each event is not equally likely. Set involves four different variables which have to be accounted for when playing. It helps our growing statisticians as well as our geometric brains. The different sizes of dice allow students to create sampling distributions for so many situations. The different candies help our statistical studies with proportions, including a semester-long Skittles project from the local community college. And the hole punch will help students with organization. Having fun while learning can help mentally take students out of the stress of school and home. Students deserve some positive motivation! That is the goal of the posters as well: to help them see interesting sides and historical figures of math!
