The standing desks will be used for students who have trouble sitting still at their desks during independent work time. We do a lot of writing in class, and that can be hard for some students. Standing while working often helps them concentrate more often. Due to Covid-19, some students have really struggled with their ability to work independently for long periods of time, so anything I can use to help build that skill is vital. This is also the purpose of the rest of my materials--I use the Post-it notes and artistic supplies for more hands-on group work that allows students to show their thinking and work together to tackle difficult literary and writing skills, as well as work on cooperative skills. Standing desks will be particularly useful for my students with ADHD/autism. They can get a little wiggly trying to work at a smaller student desk, and a standing option will help eliminate some of that.
