During the Covid shutdown, many students missed out on core learning that is crucial in becoming successful readers. Phonics and Phonemic awareness instruction are critical in early reading. Mastering foundational skills in reading will not only help the students read but also give them the confidence to tackle future reading tasks. Giving my students the materials to master the foundational skill of phonics and also practice those skills in decodable books will help them become fluent and confident readers. Reading is critical for future success in all academic areas.
