When you are learning a foreign language, reading is essential! When what you are reading doesn't resonate with you, it's hard to get engaged. That's why I want my students to be able to read books with characters who describe similar experiences. I want my students to be inspired by the stories they read. I want my refugee English Learners to be able to read about overcoming obstacles and adversity. I want them to connect the characters' experiences to their own! Most importantly, I want them to develop a life-long love for reading!
