Highly motivating and language-rich materials, such as books, models, interactive games, and augmentative/alternative communication options were selected to support in-person and/or distance learning if that becomes necessary again at any time. Having a wide variety of picture-supported learning materials and communication strategies allows children with complex communication needs more opportunities to engage in their learning and to express their knowledge and ideas. All of the materials requested, including support materials (i.e. double-sided tape and hooks) will be used to help students that struggle with acquiring and using language. Providing more opportunities for hands-on learning and the visual supports that were lacking or limited during periods of school closure related to COVID-19 will help the students progress and achieve their communication goals.
