A local contractor has donated some lumber so my students can construct mini walls using parallelograms and transversals. The drills will help us as we construct the mini walls. The walls will then be covered in duck cloth to create a canvas. This is a collaborative project. Another class will then decorate the canvas covered walls with information they have researched about a variety of universities. The walls will then be displayed during college week at school. Students struggled to learn math concepts during online school. I have found that real world application solidifies concepts and deepens understanding. Students will be required to create a design plan with a detailed diagram, written steps, and supply list in the design process of their mini walls. The drills will help my students drill pilot holes and insert screws to assemble the mini walls as they learn to use power tools and other construction skills when they assemble the boards they previously measured. The boards will be cut for the students after they measure and mark them.
