Stem projects are engaging and exciting ways to explore and learn about the world around us but the hardest part is having the supplies needed to accomplish the tasks. They need physical materials to manipulate and use to represent their learning. And by using those materials they create deeper understanding of these topics.
Students deserve every opportunity to learn as much as they can about the world around them in real-life situations.
The books I have chosen will let students learn more about people from all around the world. They will learn about their unique experiences and how they reacted to situations that arose in their lives. My students will learn to have hope in the world around them, even when it feels like everyone is trying to bring them down. They'll be more open to new experiences and willing to try even if they think they might fail.
I've also chosen many science materials that will help my students explore first-hand the science standards that we study in 4th grade. Instead of learning about ambiguous topics that they have to imagine in their minds, they can create and experiment with energy. They can build circuits and understand why a light switch works when it's on and not when it's off. Students can build chain reaction machines to simulate stored energy and watch as the energy transfers from one object to another.
The materials will help so many students find learning engaging through personal experience. Their creativity will grow and they'll learn that the sky is the limit.
