I get to teach students the art of teamwork and working together. COVID-19 and the pandemic had a deep impact on students and their ability to work together, compromise, trouble shoot, and problem solve; teaching intramurals and team sports for 4 periods every day lets me interact with students who need help with social skills, and healthy communication. Every student deserves to feel at-home at school, and having a variety of collaborative board games, art project materials, sports activity equipment, sturdy work spaces, and coordinated technology accessories (headphones) will allow me to plan activities that appeal to all different personality and learning-types. Having the materials and resources to offer them the things they enjoy doing, while facilitating healthy communication and teamwork will make my intramural and team sports class more effective for students. Thanks to this project, I will have a small desk for students to play thoughtful games of chess (without being bumped on the floor), plenty of different types of athletic equipment to offer various team sports for students to engage with, and many different types of card and board games to facilitate teamwork, communication and working together. Art is a medium that connects even the most quiet of student; by having various art supplies, I will be able to offer quiet, activities where students can come together, and work in comfort. Technology is the last way students can work as a team; but most have no headphones. The headphones will play a vital role in their working together to build the Minecraft world of their greatest imaginations!
