Many of my students struggle to regulate their emotions and know how to respond when they feel strong emotions due to their disability. We spend a lot of time learning about coping strategies and practicing them in our classroom. COVID has added additional emotions for these students and their families, and has made their home situations even more difficult. These books on emotions and sensory materials (wobble chairs, fidget toys, kinetic sand) will help my students find ways to cope with their emotions and regulate them more effectively. The academic materials will also help them make up skills and knowledge that they lost or missed out on over the COVID pandemic because online learning was very difficult for my population of students. We are working on lots of basic skills like letter identification, basic number identification and counting, writing letters and simple science concepts.
