These manipulatives will go a long way in helping to build my students' fine motor skills. They will be used for discovery-based learning, play-based learning, and structured learning. Manipulatives such as the wiki sticks and letter beads will help the learning taking place in the classroom become more tactile and fun! This learning and practice can start immediately as the wiki sticks allow the molding of a material to match a given picture, and are simply providing another way to experience the letter that is working on the fine motor skills of picking up, holding and bending. Using manipulatives specifically geared toward the development of fine motor skills will help my students perform important tasks, including writing. I have multiple students in my classroom that have never had the chance to build their fine motor skills, and I would love to have the materials to give them the opportunity to do so. The students can use the whiteboards and magnetic letters to bring building words to life, and engage their fingers in gripping and moving them. The gears and other building blocks are perfect for being used as a creative outlet, as well as working on the fine motor skills of pushing, pulling, pinching, and holding. Fine motor skills are something that if not mastered have the potential to cause deficits in students' learning for years to come.
