The headphones I have requested will enable my students to improve their speaking and listening skills through practice without feeling anxious around their peers or others who have a higher language proficiency levels or are native English speakers. Ultimately, this will provide them with a better chance to progress through the English as a Second Language program at a faster rate and join their peers in non-ESL/ELD English classes. Most importantly, the increased practice will provide them with an opportunity to score proficient on the WIDA, an assessment given to our ESL/ELD students on a yearly basis until they earn a high enough score to exit the ESL program. In addition, the Post-It easel paper and markers will be used to improve students' academic vocabulary knowledge and writing ability.
