My students have autism and frequently have difficulties with changes to their routine. They have been struggling with the uncertainty and changes that COVID-19 has brought all of us; when they have to go on distance learning, they frequently tell me afterward that it increased their anxiety or depression. Some of my students have difficulties communicating verbally. I teach students about different coping mechanisms and skills, but it can be hard for them to remember things we have talked about. I want to teach them some new skills through experience. I want to teach my students the different ways to use art to communicate, identify and express feelings, and cope with all of the changes and upheaval they are experiencing. I want to help them process their feelings in a non-verbal way and in a way that can be done when they are at home.
