All of the equipment requested in this project (ropes, belay devices, and carabiners) will help my students explore how to apply physics to understand how climbing anchor and belay systems keep them safe on the wall; learn the characteristics of different types of rocks and how this affects climbing; learn the geologic history of the areas we climb, and how climate change is affecting our outdoor and recreational spaces. The resources we are requesting will help us start a brand new rock climbing program that brings real world learning experiences to our students while ensuring their safety. By creating a cross-disciplinary rock climbing curriculum between PE and Science, we would address real-world application of science concepts while also improving their overall health and fitness. Please give our students the amazing opportunity to take advantage of our community assets by engaging in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences!
