Teaching students to give feedback takes materials such as post-it notes, markers, vecro dots, paper, etc., but it is well worth it. You see, students need feedback to ensure quality. When peers give feedback it is reinforcing to the student who is giving as well as receiving the feedback. This enables feedback to be disseminated with greater influence. It is also done more quickly than if given by teacher to student only. This type of feedback is reflective in the actual workforce. So I am preparing my students to be effective collaborators. However, this takes a great deal of modeling and practice. I will use the large post it notes to make places where anonymous feedback can be given. Students will sit on the velcro dots at the carpet so they can better see how feedback is given and received. Students will use the small same - colored post it notes to do put the feedback on the chart. Then we will progress to using colored post it notes that indicate which table gave feedback. The students' whose work was assessed can make colorful thank you notes from the paper, markers, glue, etc. Eventaully, feedback can be given using post it notes in student folders as they trade for "quality checks." Thank you notes for the feedback and congradulation cards will need to be designed by students using these matierals so students will know when they've reached quality work. Great work will be slipped into page protectors and posted outside the classroom so all can celebrate quality work. Many classroom materials are required to help students produce quality work, including post it notes of all sizes, markers, tape, etc. Thank you for helping me help my students help each other to produce quality work.
