Students K-3 have already become familiar with glockenspiels and rhythm sticks. When COVID restrictions limited our singing and hands on instruction, our already aging glockenspiels and rhythm sticks were used more because of their ease and speed of cleaning. Now parts of our glockenspiels are brittle and breaking off, and our rhythm sticks have lost paint and are splintering. These instruments have given students the opportunity to develop many skills. They've developed their patience, focus, self control, and attention span. They continue to improve their tracking, hand-eye coordination, fine/gross motor skills, and melodic direction as they play and move from left to right. Their language development, social and problem solving skills have improved as they help each other piece the glockenspiels together.
