We live in a world where aesthetic is often just as important as function. These black glass dry erase boards will be visually stimulating by (1) being black instead of traditional white, (2) span 20 feet continually across our Sigma Center's long wall, and (3) we will be using Expo neon colors when writing/teaching on the boards. In a world where our student's are constantly subjected to cutting edge aesthetics, why would we, as educators, not try and harness the propensity of that desire in learning? For example, Khan Academy, the world's leading online educational resource for math, has been utilizing this very same thing for years already. All of their thousands of math tutorials are based on a black background while using neon colors as their writing tool. The Sigma Center is primarily a math centered teaching room where we are, with great fervor, working to get 100% of our students AOA grade level in all math scores. These classy (and glassy) black boards will be an invigorating step that will engage our students better and allow us to have more students working at the same time. Thanks to Khan Academy these black glass boards would also be a natural and helpful transition that our student's have already been subjected to. Mathematics is the primary reason for my requesting of this project, but this new wall of aesthetically pleasing boards will also benefit our entire site because they will be accessible for all areas of study when they are available.
