The graphic novels I have requested will give my special education students access to classical and current literature in a high-interest format. For the last several years I have avoided teaching The Odyssey because of its format and language-dense text. Bringing a graphic novel version into class will allow me to teach this text to students of varying abilities in my mild-moderate disabilities classes. Having used Gareth Hinds' adaptations of Romeo and Juliet as well as Macbeth with tremendous success, I know that his interpretation of The Odyssey will be well-researched and accurate to the original as much as possible. The graphic representations help students to follow the action in the book while also exposing them to classic storylines and higher level vocabulary.
