Typically, a virtual lab of Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) has been used to demonstrate genetic principles such as dominance, genotype, phenotype, Punnett squares, genes, alleles and sex-linked traits. This lab will encourage increased student understanding and involvement by giving students the opportunity to use microscopes to observe these patterns of inheritance in actual living organisms. During COVID-19, most labs and student learning were done virtually. Students are starving for in-person experiences. These microscopes will help me create a live learning experience for students that will be something they will be sure to remember.

About my class
