We do an opening and closing crew meeting to start off our day, and end our day. Having the carpet will allow us to be able to make these connections as we circle up each morning to greet each other, do a reading, and activity together. We also will meet often for our whole group ELA learning for both of my classes. Students will be able to make meaningful connections through art with the paint and art pads. Our school focuses on students being creative, and connecting art to the standards they are learning. For example, right now my students are working on creating 3D animals they made up that have adaptations to help them to survive in their environment. My students have been studying animal defense mechanisms and how they help animals to survive. They will make connections by creating their own animals with defense mechanisms that survive in a real live environment. They will paper Mache then paint their animal. They will also be creating a habitat background for their 3D animal. They will display these in a celebration of learning night for their parents and classmates as they pretend to be on a real safari and be the tour guides for the safari. They are working so hard to show what they have learned.
