Our middle school students, grade 5-8, live in an environment that is tough for most kids. The socioeconomic status of our children, as a majority, is poor. These kids crave safe places to go and be after school. In most cases, they want to continue to be in school after the normal hours of the the day are over. Board Game Club allows students, who may not be athletic or interested in sports, a competitive environment to be who they are. They learn how to interact with peers in a fun way that also teaches rules. This, in turn, teaches them how to behave in a classroom as well as helps a lot of them form friendships, making middle school a little bit easier and a whole lot less awkward.
