When my students came back from our school closures in 2020, one of the biggest areas of concern with students and parents was the students' ability to cook for themselves. Unfortunately with COVID guidelines, we weren't able to focus on cooking at that time. I have heard about students' inability to cook from multiple parents, one parent even told me a story about their student starting a fire in the microwave because they didn't understand kitchen safety. This year a focus in our program is teaching students to cook meals they can make at home. They have been learning to cook chicken rice bowls, french dips, nachos, baked potatoes, and dessert nachos. These supplies including a microwave, air fryer and pressure cooker would create more options and opportunities to teach students to cook.
