These materials allow each group to have a foam head, and choice of helmet materials. They will be practicing engineering design aspects while applying the physics of collisions to their designs. They will be modeling ways to protect the brain and skull by keeping a grape safe in this case during a sudden impact. For their final project design a limited budget will also be employed, so students will have to "purchase" materials carefully. This is to be a fun, interesting challenge that will inform them of engineering aspects and physics applications that has immediate relevancy to their life and choices going forward.
