Pushing speech therapy into the classroom has been a game-changer for my special needs students. Interacting in groups is one of the best ways to teach social skills while focusing on fun interactive activities that target vocabulary taken from a story. I'd like to provide the books used in language groups to every classroom. Exposure to familiar materials across environments is crucial to learning in this time of uncertainty. Students are dealing with the emotional upheaval of having sick family members, sick and absent educators, all while fighting illness themselves. They've lost a lot of the consistency that’s so important to their well-being. Putting these familiar materials into the classroom is one way to provide activities that anyone can pick up and read or work with students. This simple action may alleviate some of the stress and inconsistency they face every day.
