Our school recently got a FEMA grant for a tornado shelter and a bond passed to get a new early childhood building. This is great for our community and also needed for our students, but the new building will take away our current basketball courts and and part of our playground area. PE and recess will lose a lot of our outdoor activitites and space because of it. This grant will give them more movement options during their recess time so they don't just sit around. There is a lot of data suggesting the kids that were already overweight before the lockdown gained weight during it becuase of lack of activity. This grant will also allow my students to get outside and enjoy the sun as well as have physical activity.
