My young students need to have more "hands on" experiences. Many of them come from homes where they never have the opportunity to do more than color with crayons on a color page. There are so many eye hand coordination skills and spacial awareness skills that come into play when I child uses multi-mediums to paint and creat beautiful art. Learning to use the primary colors to make secondary is best taught by using paint. Complimentary colors are more vivid and come alive when the student uses tempra and acrilic paints to bblend and create new shades and values of color. We are in need of drying racks to allow more children to have a creative space on the tables while allowing other children's art to dry. The art room can fill up quickly, especially when we are using 12 by 18 or larger sheets of paper. These drying racks will allow students to produce more art on a daily basis, without taking up table top space.
