I go between first grade classrooms and assist students in their individual learning. Part of what I do is teach intervention reading groups, and the books and group resources I've requested would aid in this effort. My students have struggled getting back into school since having online or blended learning due to COVID-19. There is a much bigger gap in reading development than there has been in previous years. Many students need extra instruction they couldn't receive last year without in-person intervention. With the materials provided, my students will be better equipped to learn the basics of reading, phonemic awareness, and reading comprehension. I hope to fill the gap that COVID-19 related learning loss has given them, by providing books for reading groups, letter learning manipulatives, and instructional tools to better teach small groups.
