Some students need a little extra support to overcome challenges that make learning harder. The impact of COVID on their emotional health has been a challenge but they are learning to be self-aware and handle their big emotions in a positive way. When given the tools they need to succeed, the students at my school will reach great heights making differences in their homes, our community and one day, the world! The materials I am seeking will be a welcome addition to the sensory tools that our K-6 students currently have. These supplies will help them reset from the big emotions they experience and prepare for challenges as they go through their learning journey each day at school. My students are learning to recognize what they are feeling and to take charge of those emotions by using regulations strategies and tools. I would like to add a couple of movement chairs, fidgets, and a TV to my office for student use. The chairs help my "movers" to be able to focus during the lesson I teach. I'm hoping to use the TV to project social stories and other read aloud books to the students. I currently use my lap top to show them learning stories and it's very small for a group of 5-6 students to watch at one time. Fidgets help my students when they are in moments with big emotions and are trying to calm themselves down. I have seen the positive impact these tools have had on students as they learn to calm down. I am also seeking some new games to teach social skills for my students that struggle getting along with other students because they simply don't fit in. I have found that the games that we play teach so many valuable lessons.
