I am in my second year of teaching Family and Consumer Science. Besides baking and cooking, students in all my classes practice food presentation, table setting, and tasting the foods of their labor. Effective equipment makes for effective learning. My FACS classroom itself is in good shape, but many of its utensils and kitchen equipment are in need of updating. The silverware in each of the seven cooking labs is quite old and shows a great deal of wear. Most units are missing pieces. These factors make it difficult for students to set a pleasing table and enjoy eating what they have made in class. New silverware will make our kitchen labs more complete and effective. Students will have increased pride in their products as they get to use quality equipment that is safe and complete.
