When the pandemic first started, my classroom was impacted by a number of things that changed in our school. For starters, we needed to be outside more frequently. It is physical education, so most of our units and lessons were going to be outside anyway, however, even units typically done inside needed to be moved outside. In an effort to accommodate social distancing, I also narrowed down our lessons to activities that didn't involve a lot of direct contact and close proximity competition. Games like Frisbee golf and traditional golf found a spotlight they hadn't previously received.
To my surprise, the opportunity to participate in more recreational style sports and activities was well received. Two needs were born out of this. The first, a need to invest in some higher quality equipment that could withstand the use of students across more grade levels. The second, the funding to support equipment for additional recreational activities.
With this additional funding I will be able to do both. I can invest in stronger equipment for activities we already participate in, while also expanding our list of activities.
