The variety of supplies and learning materials requested in this grant will greatly enrich my classroom and help to create a learning laboratory with open doors for all students before school, during school, and even when learning from home. I have requested science games, such as Fast Sling and Gravity Maze, and science gadgets, such as Galileo Thermometer and Barometer set, to fill a void that was created as we had to say goodbye to our classroom bearded dragon last month. She was a student magnet that attracted kids every morning before school. By adding games and gadgets to my classroom that students can use before school, I hope to re-create an environment that provides a safe place to socialize and allow students to feel they belong. The document camera and tripod will enhance our learning laboratory by filling immediate needs for blended learning, enriching both the learning experience for in-class learners as well as remote learners. Adding these tools will allow me to broadcast demonstrations and model tasks in front of the class without the distraction of moving back and forth to my desk to advance slides or access the projector from my desktop computer. Having a home base, such as a standing desk to hold my teaching tools and provide an area for demonstrations in the science classroom, will help students focus in the classroom and in remote settings. To increase the effectiveness of Chromebooks for learning in my classroom, I have requested a classroom set of optic wired mouses (mice, either one will do). The specific variety of dry erase markers requested will aid in "close-reading" and annotating our textbook together as it is projected on the whiteboard, a highly effective practice to support literacy. Requested materials will support a hands-on, student-centered learning laboratory.
