My science students have been learning from their Chromebook screens for nearly 2 years. They are weary of learning this way yet they need to read more to develop their informational text reading skills. Our classroom also needs some interesting activities for those students who finish early and some engaging books for struggling readers. Having a mini-library of children's books related to our science topics will allow us to differentiate instruction as well as help catch up on the learning lost to the pandemic. I want advanced students who finish their assignment early going to the book bin and reading one of these "picture books" for 10-15 minutes, then giving me a quick oral report for a reward. I also want to use these books to help engage my reluctant readers and get them interested in our weekly science topic before we dive in to more difficult aspects. It's a WIN-WIN!
