My students are sixth graders who are taught these subjects in German. Anything I can do to have them interact with the subject aids tremendously in their understanding since they are learning it in their non-native language. The science kits are used so the students can work in small groups to better understand the science lessons I'm teaching. With the cameras the students of my two classes can take pictures of other students and classroom projects. These pictures are then shown on a weekly basis to help reinforce what we learned. It becomes also a great opportunity for them to produce language as they express themselves about their own experiences in German. Another benefit is that it builds class cohesiveness and strengthens individuals as they see pictures of themselves. At the end of the year we select pictures to put together a small yearbook. The shelves are just there to organize the growing library of German books the students can pick from.
