Narrative skills are a highly effective intervention for teaching students with developmental language disorders the areas of story grammar elements (characters, settings, etc.) and syntactic grammar elements (noun/verb phrases, regular/irregular past tense verbs, pronouns, etc.). Research has shown that teaching students with developmental language disorders in the context of narratives will allow them to increase their language skills to access their classroom and common core curriculum in language and literacy. I will use these story kits in my narrative intervention sessions with my students as a fun way to teach these stories and develop their language and literacy skills.
