As a history teacher, I have encouraged my students to use their imaginations to creatively solve problems by asking them to see history from different angles and contexts. I encourage them to not be passive absorbers of information but to be involved in the creative processes as active doers, and to use the knowledge they have to solve problems. I often ask students to make educated guesses, based on the information they have, and to imagine what will happen next. This project allows my students to not only learn about history, but truly experience history through games, movement, social engagement, critical thinking, and creativity. I will use these history games, trivia activities, sensory products, and classroom incentives such as a reward wheel and supportive stickers to bring my students as much of an interactive and immersive learning environment as possible after the continued difficulties of the pandemic. I want them to be able to get up and move, laugh, explore, and engage with history. I want to make sure I include opportunities for all students to develop a passion to learn from our history no matter their abilities and learning needs. I want to create an environment that can help students feel supported and regulated. This project does just that with a variety of fun and educational games about history, trivia contests, sensory regulating activities to help students focus and attend, and affirming rewards and stickers. I hope to make every day an adventure through history to help them grow as learners and future leaders!
