Many of my students have missed out on the hands on learning experiences that come from being in the classroom. They also miss out on the camaraderie of working together in a classroom environment. I want my classroom to be a fun and safe place. I chose to have items that will allow my students to feel more comfortable by having things to fidget with, games to help them work together, or snacks when they are hungry. Additionally, I would like to reward them when they do well by giving them prizes for showing mastery of concepts. My students will be able to learn concepts more deeply as they explore with compasses, exploragons, algebra tiles, and tangrams. Mathematics is a visual subject. By having manipulatives to work with, my students will develop a deeper understanding.
