My students will benefit from story retelling kits by incorporating critical thinking language skills, such as story grammar, antonyms, synonyms, summarizing, comparing and contrasting, just to name a few. Using actual books (not digital) and manipulatives to teach these skills, provides a more engaging, interactive experience for the students. Language processing disorders need to be treated using a hierarchy of language processing, which occurs on a continuum. They start with the most basic concepts (labeling, functions, categories) and building up as you go. Students begin to understand more complex skills, such as synthesizing and recalling information, building vocabulary knowledge and comprehension. As a whole, students are able to increase language processing and critical thinking skills.
