To become capable mathematicians, students need tools. My students need calculators, math miras (essential for geometric transformations, such as reflections), and rulers to help them discover and explore meaningful math concepts. Just like we can't build a house without a hammer, students need these essential tools in order to build their mastery of mathematics. These tools allow students to see "the bigger picture" in math, instead of being bogged down by calculations. Let's invest in our young mathematicians and give them the tools in order to be successful in junior high and spark the confidence to excel in high school.
