The courses I teach are challenging to most students during the best of times. Traditional textbooks are often written at a college level or more with the instructor in mind rather than the student which creates a wide gap for students who already are struggling to understand the content. The text that I selected focuses on the core essentials of my subject. These texts are intentionally written to be accessible to the average high school student. Their word choice is easy to understand and can greatly benefit a first time learner. During COVID-19 I have seen a technology burnout in my students. In the past students were excited when asked to make a video or when video instruction was used in class to augment in person instruction. Now I observe a level of disinterest in anything digital that did not exist before. I hope that by providing a text specifically written with high school students in mind it will allow students to master the material. Further, I hope that this option makes my content accessible to students who may have missed class due to COVID-19 and are trying to catch up. This will especially benefit students who may be experiencing screen fatigue or individuals whose schedule does not permit them to come get help after school.
