Speed Stacking Cups target motor skills, hand-eye coordination, quick thinking, cross-body eye and hand movement, and fun to engage student growth. Speed stacking cups are fun and engaging for students but what they do not realize is that they are working on their literacy skills. Children need to be physically ready for literacy. When a child has opportunities to exercise fine and gross motor skills, they utilize all aspects of the brain when learning to read. There are multiple ways to use Speed Stacking in the classroom. Students can work independently and at their own pace to better their abilities. Some competitive students want to race to be the fastest. My personal favorite is when students work together to make the tallest tower. I can see the leaders and engineers! There are many ways to utilize and benefit from this one material.
