This year's group has had so many social emotional needs. I would like to purchase specific books that match lesson plans specifically designed to teach a comprehension skill as well as a social emotional learning skill. These skills include things like appreciating other cultures, persevering through disappointments and knowing what types of secrets need to be shared with an adult. These books are very diverse and would include stories from many different types of children in many difficult cultures. Students in my class have so many needs related to their emotional learning this year, and a specialized program will really help to address these holes in their growth. In addition to some specific emotional learning needs my kids need more choices in how and where they can learn within our classroom. Currently I have 6 round tables with normal chairs for students to sit on. I would like to shift our seating within our classroom by adding easy to move stools and lap desks. This will provide my kids with more opportunities to make their own learning space choices. This helps me to set up more personalized learning opportunities for kids so they can be participating in their own learning in different ways all over the room. Additionally I would like to have my kids working in a more hands on method within the classroom. Legos would aid me in giving some personalized learning choices that appeal to my students and provide them with learning opportunities.
