The materials will make a great difference in our student's learning as they learn about the lifecycle of a chicken. Observing the lifecycle of a chicken can enrich the learning of the students. Students will be able to make connections with other lifecycles and record their observations in notebooks.
Students will observe the lifecycle of a chicken by observing, recording, and making connections with the topic across the curriculum. Language Arts, math, fine motor skills will be incorporated as well as social emotional learning. Students will predict how long it will take to hatch chickens and record daily their observations (candling the egg).
I have an AM and PM class and it would be nice to be able to use the incubators for each class to make their observations (also if something doesn't go quite right maybe it will enhance the success of the chickens hatching and living). We will need crayons to color our observations, pencils that need sharpening with the pencil sharpener (we are in need of a new one).
We will use a heating lamp after chicks are born, chick feed and vitamins for their food, and wood chips for them to live on. Folders with sheet protectors can be used to save art projects or observations that they may journal in. If a child is ill, it can also be a means of transporting materials to and from home.
