Often, the deaf and hard of hearing students in my classroom come to me with significant delays in language. With these delays, we typically see delays in other areas as well. We noticed that many of our students were lacking skills of being able to engage in age-appropriate play, especially when asked to play independently. During the pandemic, the need for more designated time to practice this skill became more apparent in our classroom. One of our focuses this year has been implementing independent play centers to provide more independent play practice and foster confidence in our students. These toys were specifically chosen as items that we know will engage our students and help them develop as independent learners. Thank you for your time!
