During the Covid-19 pandemic, my students were not able to receive speech services face to face. During distance learning, my students had trouble being engaged during speech services due to the lack of stimulation from multiple sensory items. Most of the students we work with are on the Spectrum and having physical materials is helpful in motivating these students to participate. Online therapy greatly limited the materials that I was able to use and impacted their willingness to participate. My students receive speech services for social skills, articulation, fluency, phonological deficits, expressive and receptive language production. Getting the child to participate and engage is essential to helping them improve their communication skills. I ordered games and books that the children will love and be excited to use during speech services. Many of my students have speech deficits that are impacting their ability to be effective communicators in the classroom. During speech therapy, we are able to work one on one with the student and observe how they are carrying over those skills you have been working on into the classroom. I selected a wide range of materials that will aid me in working on my students goals and making the sessions motivating for the student. These materials will truly help my students become better communicators.
