Social-emotional themed books will be used during counseling sessions to teach students skills. White board tools help reinforce the information being taught during groups. Many students are struggling to cope with life stressors due to added challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic. Social skills have also been affected by remote learning and social distancing. Students need explicit instruction in these areas to build these skills. Students benefit from access to sensory tools to regulate their emotions. Fidget toys, putty, wobble cushions, liquid motion bubblers…these items help students calm down when upset and remain engaged in learning. Small reward items help keep students motivated to learn and recognize them for positive behavioral choices.
