Flexible seating is a great tool to increase student engagement and foster independent thinkers. In a room full of wiggle six-year olds, it adds variety and movement to their day. During independent work time, students are able to pick a different location in the room to work. Locations range from under their desk, sitting at circle time with a clipboard, or at group tables. This easy engagement tool allows students to participate in group learning, increases comfort, and gives added motivation and ownership to give their best effort. The tools I have picked will give my students additional options for seating during these points of the day. The wobble stools are adjustable and can be used in various locations in our room. The yoga balls will help students who need additional opportunities for movement. The floor chairs will be great for independent work at circle time and add a comfortable floor option. I have seen firsthand how effective this can be in an early childhood classroom. The opportunities for movement and choice make all the difference!
