I would use the shake tables to help the students deepen their understanding of how buildings and structures are built in order to withstand the forces that are put on them by an earthquake and other natural disasters. Students would be able to design and build a structure and then use the shake table to evaluate their design. They would be able to see if their design would withstand the force put on it by an earthquake. This would help the students be more engaged in the scientific process of how structures are built. They would get to do hands-on work to truly understand some of the science that goes into making buildings structurally able to handle an earthquake.
